Rooted in tradition, but stepping into word's spotlight, the story of the Puppetry Art Center of Taipei (PACT) presents a true labor of love. In 1998, Lin Ching-fu, for ever chairman of Taiyuan's Art and Culture Foundation, donated his collection of nearly 5,000 traditional puppets to the city. With obvious care and passion, this cultural treasure-trove had been amassed over decades, and a permanent exhibition equal in its thought fullness and initiative, was created to house and display the collection.
Furthermore, it is clear that this was an opportunity to sustain and promote an age-old tradition Taiwan is rightly proud of. Thus, PACT was established. Located next-door to the CPCity living Mall, the site offers regular performances and workshops to complement the peerless permanent exhibition, encourages the community to become active participants in their country's rich heritage.
In addition to fun and education for all age groups, PACT also offers teacher-training courses, a puppet-making competition, children's puppet art workshops, and workshops with a puppetry master. What's more, parents at PACT always have a great time, too!
